It's Just a Game...

I just came back from another one of my brother's hockey games (which they lost in overtime). The "chickenhocks" were going crazy tonight. Since I don't have much political stuff to write about right now, here's a selection of things that the parents yelled throughout the game. This may be another one of those "you had to be there" things, but I think they're kinda funny:

-"Go for the body! You're playin' like a pantywaist!"

-"THAT'S OFFSIDES, BIGNOSE! He can't see that side of the ice 'cause his nose is so big!" (talking to/about the referee)

-"Hey, Number 13! You couldn't skate when you were 12!"

-"PUT SOME PRESSURE ON 'EM! PUT SOME PRESSURE ON 'EM! PUT SOME PRESSURE ON 'EM! PUT SOME PRESSURE ON 'EM! PUT SOME PRESSURE ON 'EM! PUT SOME PRESSURE ON 'EM! PUT SOME PRESSURE ON 'EM!" (she said this at least 50 times over the course of the game)

-"LET'S GO MUSTANGS!" HONK! HONK! HONK HONK HONK! (he was blowing an airhorn instead of clapping)

-"Put your glove on or you'll break your hand! That's the first thing I'm gonna smack!"

...and, my personal favorite...

-"Get the puck! Skate with it!"

That's the entire point of the game. You don't have to tell them.

Like I said before, I played hockey a long time ago, and I know for a fact that the players don't hear any of the "advice" being shouted at them. It seems like kind of a waste of energy sometimes.

Nah, it's a release of energy. If fans couldn't shout at the players they'd twitch and figit all night. I love shouting at baseball players. ("Yer pitch control is even worse than Yoko Ono's!!!" "Come on! This game has more foul balls than a rooster convention!" "I've seen better swings at a playground!" "(gritting teeth) Swing at the strikes and take the balls!!!!") It's fun.

Yeah, it can be fun. I just think it's funny when parents think they can coach their kids by yelling "get the puck" at them. I mean, what else would they be trying to do besides getting the puck?

Oh, the memories of youth sports. Seems like a long time ago. Also seems like the parents have gotten a lot, lot worse.

I attended a few HS Hockey games (my HS had a really good team) and I heard some pretty colorful things...
