Double Standard Alert

Okay, without linking to anything, let me just present a scenario:

Case 1: George W. Bush is accused of being AWOL while in the National Guard. To counter the claim, he says he was there, releases all his records proving he was there, gets numerous testimonials from people who saw him there, and even finds dental records. After all this, the left decides that they need more proof.

Case 2: John Kerry is accused of committing adultery with an intern. Kerry and the intern both deny it. Case closed.

Who can tell me what's wrong with this picture?

How's this for a double standard: the same people who criticized clinton for being a draft dodger, defend bush for avoiding the war with his connections. And defend him for wasting $1 million plus of flight training.

All of the warhawks remain silent when this prep boy gets flown onto an aircraft carrier in full regalia like some warrier president. If anyone else who blatently avoided the war had done that, the local VFW would have been blown the roof off!!

It's the same as feminist groups remaining silent when Clinton went through the Lewinsky affair.

Clinton, of course, never served in any branch of the military. Period. I'd say that puts Dubya at least one step above him.

And defend him for wasting $1 million plus of flight training.

Wasting? He learned to fly, didn't he?

First of all, he's commander in chief of a military that's currently at war, so I don't know why acknowledging that is bad. Second, the flight suit that everyone has blown out of proportion was required for anyone on that type of aircraft. Third, I'll remind you that Bush does know how to fly a plane, and he proved it that day. Doesn't sound like a waste to me.

If anyone else who blatently avoided the war had done that, the local VFW would have been blown the roof off!!

Blatantly avoided the war? Have you seen this:

Maurice Udell, one of Mr. Bush's flight instructors at the Ellington Air Force Base in Texas, remembers Mr. Bush as a standout student. "I'd rank him in the top 5 percent," says Mr. Udell, now 73 and retired.
Mr. Udell says Mr. Bush asked about a program under which National Guard pilots were assigned to Vietnam, but Mr. Udell told him he wasn't eligible because he was certified on the F-102, which the military was phasing out.

Bush was ready to go to Vietnam, but he wasn't qualified for any of the available positions. I understand his desire not to be on the ground. I know I'd rather fly than hack through a jungle carrying an assault rifle.

Glad you like the site, in any case.

It's a complete mystery to me why the press hasn't demanded a minute-by-minute account of Kerry's whereabouts during the time in question as proof that he did no wrong (i.e., wasn't checking into a no-tell motel and registering as "Mr. & Ms. Smith" on a Heinz Corporation credit card).
Okay, I lied; it's no mystery at all. :)
