Yeah, Nobody Saw That Coming

'Fahrenheit 9/11' wins top honor at Cannes

American filmmaker Michael Moore’s “Fahrenheit 9/11,” a scathing indictment of White House actions after the Sept. 11 attacks, won the top prize Saturday at the Cannes Film Festival.

“Fahrenheit 9/11” was the first documentary to win Cannes’ prestigious Palme d’Or since Jacques Cousteau’s “The Silent World” in 1956.

In other news, the sky is blue, grass is green, and water is wet.

Have I repeated recently that I hate Michael Moore? If not then here it goes...."I, The Sicilian, Hate Michael Moore with all the hatred that one human can contain.

Is Cannes still in France? Yep, that would explain it.

"Yeah, Nobody Saw That Coming

why wasn't it a surprise? That the film was honored? Or is it that because it was held in France that was honored?

P.S. When you hear the wackos on Fox News and elsewhere refer to this prize as coming from “the French,” please know that of the nine members of the Festival jury, only ONE was French. Nearly half the jury (four) were Americans and the President of the jury was an American (Quentin Tarantino). But this fact won’t stop the O’Reillys or the Lenos or the Limbaughs from attacking the French and me because, well, that’s how their simple minds function.

1. I rarely, if ever, watch or read Fox News.

2. O'Reilly, Limbaugh, and Leno are irritating, and I don't listen to or watch them. Ever.

3. It's not a good idea to make assumptions about people you don't know. I could just as easily tell you to stop listening to Noam Chomsky or put down the Communist Manifesto.

4. The "honor" wasn't a surprise because Moore has gotten this kind of special treatment already. Remember the Oscar speech? Or the media perpetuating the lie that Disney censored "Fahrenheit 911?" How about the fact that his film got a 20 minute standing ovation at Cannes? That doesn't seem odd to you?

I also believe that one judge referred to it as "more than a documentary," although the site where I found that isn't working right now. The point is that people in the film business are bending over backwards to pretend that Moore is a credible documentarian, not a political hack who lies to make his points.

Someone else deal with him now, dang it. This is too easy.

I forget when (oh, that's right, never)it was that I realized I should not base Quenton Terrintino's judgement of someone as my own. He's not the prime example of a rational human.

Yes, Bill, you are right. You don't have to be French to appreciate Michael Moore. You just to be un-American, un-educated or both. It just so happens that the French often fall into both categories.

Adieu branleur

I do listen to O'Reilly sometimes. I think it was him I heard on the radio today that made a good point. Osama bin Laden probably loves Michael Moore. And HE isn't French.

But Cannes is still in France. And before anybody argues that his Oscar came from Hollywood, bear in mind Hollywood isn't in America either. It's just the capital of the Pacific Socialist Republic.
