In-Depth Political Commentary for Today

Listening to an Obama speech is kind of like being lectured to by a 9 year-old, so I didn't actually watch the "state of the nation" thing, but after reading the transcript, I have to ask a question:

Is it just me, or does The One have an unnerving tendency to state his belief in a given course of action, then follow that statement with a list of ways he's planning to do the exact opposite?

I mean, he starts off the speech by claiming that he doesn't believe in bigger government, then spends the rest of it explaining all the wonderful things government is going to do for us, along with historical examples of government's supposed successes.

Seriously, am I the only one who noticed this? It's like the Pope starting a speech by declaring that he doesn't believe in God.

I was worried that my president for the next 4 years would continue the trend of my president for the last 8 years of putting my teeth on edge with EVERY single speech. Thankfully, my fears have thus far been well founded.
I think my Bullshit-dar is the cause. I can only take in so much before the stabbiness creeps into my normally calm demeanor. With Bush, it took about 2 minutes, with Obama, it's about 1:45. That's close enough for me.
Though, at least with Bush, the protesters in DC and NY made up for it with conspicuous nudity and gaily painted floats, puppets and effigies. What we need is cute topless hippie chicks... no, that's not gonna fly... cute topless 4-H chicks/conservative 7 sisters graduates (they exist, honest) to draw attention to deficiencies in policy and moral/economic fortitude.

Hey, a man can dream, neh?

I'm surprised that you're surprised by his inverted "headline" vs the explanation. He has already shown a remarkable propensity for exactly this behavior! "We will not allow ex-lobbyists to be involved with a 'connected' activity in the administration." "We will provide five days of review time for taxpayers to review all bills BEFORE signing them." "Our administration will set a new standard for honesty and integrity." (except for some minor tax evasion)

One month in .... geeeez, I hope someone keeps a list!!
