I know what you mean. At least you've been studying more quantitative areas that aren't warped by ideology. I'm a communications major, so I'm pretty much on the frontlines of the battlefield.

But that doesn't mean I'm unaware of what goes on around me (my school has both a Peace Studies program and now offers a MA in "Coexistance Studies")
"Coexistence Studies?" Does that even mean anything?

And there's nothing radical or even political about how sitting in a lecture hall receiving educational "transmittals" is now generally considered an outdated kind of education.
Posted by: Thoughtful at January 2, 2004 08:58 PMI think the "transmitting" thing was just a choice of words. The entire point of college is to teach people, and that's "transmitting knowledge." However, if you need more proof, here's another excerpt which also appears on Critical Mass:
Underlying the "Arts of Democracy" project is a fascinating attempt to redefine college education. The group coordinating the program--the Association of American Colleges and Universities--holds that middle- and working-class students enter college deeply sexist and racist. Such students need "education for the 21st century" to abandon their hostility to "diversity."
This is indoctrination, not knowledge, and it's wrong.
