This one's not philosophical or anything. I just want to know:
Why is it that, when you take an exam in college, at least one person in the room always seems to be coughing up one of their lungs?
Come on. Anybody who's spent time in college has had this experience. Why does it happen? I'm just a freshman, so I haven't had enough time to analyze it yet. Help me out here!
Posted by CD on March 18, 2004 04:54 PMAs a sophomore in college, I still have not figured this out completely. It should probably be listed somehow as a Murphy's Law.
Though, I sometimes think that it is because the coughing culprit did not spend enough time studying for the exam and feels unprepared. Therefore, by coughing and distracting the rest of the class, she might be able to lower the average enough to warrant a curve. Just a thought.
What I find more annoying is when someone walks into the exam late, obviously having been smoking some illicit substances beforehand. The smell that radiates from them is enough to knock out those around them. At least you can stay conscious through the coughing.
Interesting theory. It does seem to make sense. There was one guy coughing every couple seconds during my last math test, and the class average ended up being about 10% lower than usual.
I haven't noticed anyone taking a test after using illicit substances (and I do know people who use them), but maybe I'm just not paying enough attention...
Posted by: CD at March 18, 2004 06:28 PMI think it's just seniors auditing the class merely to iritate one person and trying to distract just that one person, the rest be damned.
Posted by: Tommy at March 18, 2004 07:05 PMBut the girl who did it today was a freshman!
...Excuse me. Freshperson.
